The imposition of voice tests, without consultation or agreement, caused considerable upset to many members. This was a major change experience of belonging in the choir, and was imposed half-way through the year when subscriptions had been paid. The conduct of these tests, and the division of the choir into 3 castes, was also found unpleasant by many members.
